In one case, a citizen was murdered by a government agent on video and there was no arrest.

In one case, a citizen was (presumably) murdered by a private citizen. The investigation is (presumably) ongoing.

Oh, is this the first time there has been outrage over a murder? Is there only ever outrage when the government does the killing? Do you not remember what happened in Georgia just a couple weeks ago?

Are people really under the impression the protesting would have the same effect on street level crime as it would on government action?

Honestly, the “protestors” have a better chance of curbing these types of senseless crimes than they do the ones they are “protesting” over.

I do. In that case, even though the murderers were private citizens, there were protests due to government action (or lack thereof). Had the murderers been arrested, protests would have made little sense. Instead, it took a month and a half to arrest them, even though the murder was on video.

Protests, generally, are intended to influence institutions, whether governmental or private, like a business. But again, the purpose is to influence future action. If I kill you in the street, and the police arrest me, what future action are the demonstrators seeking to influence? That some random a-hole won’t commit a murder in the future?
