I remember #9 being like this and #4 had a ditch in the fairway instead of the pond.

Short par 4. Tee box was north of RR tracks. Your tee shot went down into the bottoms there. The street on the left was high, snd there was a big tree there. Way right was a natural ridge. There was no canal. The fairway was mostly bottom land so to speak. The green was on street level with a rise with a street behind it.

Back then a good drive could reach the green, but it played longer than it measured because your ball landed in the soft bottom and had to roll up hill to get on the green. Big knickers today could certainly drive the green now.
