They couldn't support a minor league team with cheap ticket prices and a brand new ball park.

This is stupid. When Zephyr Field was first built, and the Z's were competing reguarly for championships, that stadium had a number of sell-outs on a regular basis, and was packed pretty often, especially on $1 beer thursdays and firework fridays.

People stopped supporting the team when:

1) Couhig left the ownership group, and the new owners were horrible
2) They kept getting saddled with crappy MLB affiliations
3) They stopped investing in the ballpark, which went from one of the nicest in the minor leagues to a dump.

N.O.'s economy is such that there just aren't enough folks with that much disposable money to support another big league team

That, and you would have to have a new stadium, which we also can't afford.

A well-run AA or AAA team, with a good affiliation, playing in a Zephyr Field with 10-15 million of upgrades, would do well.

They should put a minor league team on the Northshore where the money is. They’d love not having to drive across the lake to see live sports

New Orleans would be the smallest metro area with MLB by about 30% and has about 25% of the average MLB Cities population. New Orleans is a great place but it ain't a major league city.....just ain't enough people.

I used to go to a pile of Braves games back in the day, even back when you call and ask what time the game started and they would ask "when can you be here?".....but MLB ain't anywhere near as fun and entertaining as minor league baseball....the minor league teams make the atmosphere a BLAST because they know they have a very tiny fan base to appeal to. Minor League baseball is heads and shoulders better than MLB in my opinion....the one team where it is even close is the Texas Rangers...I don't know how they manage it but that stadium can be full and your vehicle is less than a 7-10 minute walk from your seat for $10! It is a GREAT MLB experience based on that fact alone. I haven't been to the new Braves stadium but if it is anything like the other 2 ten minutes of walking won't get you out of the building, let alone back to your car...went 3 day set at Coors field last Summer and we parked in Utah I think....

except for, in the grand scheme of things every minor league game is forgotten about that night.

No more so than the MLB game for the average fan....the stats may be better kept but the average fan only wants to get out of traffic afterward. Now the baseball junkie yes, the game being played at the highest level is what it is all about, but for most people in the stand they are only there to be out on a summer evening and pull for the home team....win or lose means nothing 10 minutes after the last out....

until you look at the standings and ask what tf is going on if you suck

Nobody’s done that for AAA baseball in the last 50 years

Kind of off topic, but Milwaukee shouldn't have a team. Their metro is comparable to NOLA and Birmingham. I believe smaller, more personable stadiums would thrive in smaller markets. Half of the league is in the North/NE, and those regions are declining in population. MLB will need to reorg if they want to stop the declining interest in the sport. Not saying NOLA should have a team, but Nashville, Charlotte, SLC and Portland should have a team.

Probably going to happen but MLB needs to do something to make 3 hours of paint drying 162 times a year, many late at night on week nights, palpable for folks with kids who have jobs...I like MLB and I really enjoy minor league baseball....but it is too much to go to a ML game, pay $50 for a seat, $40 to park and then watch 3 hours of almost nothing and then sit in traffic for an hour to get the hell out of dodge starting at 730 on a Tuesday night...MLB has a problem...
