John Derosier announced last month that he will be retiring. Here's who's running:
Declared:
Stephen Dwight
Rick Bryant
Declined:
Todd Clemons
Considering:
Chris Chesson
What are your thoughts on this race and the candidates?

Stephen Dwight so that he will vacate his State Rep seat. He has been useless there unless you are his neighbor in Moss Bluff.

Dwight came out of left field
I imagine a lot of the internal support structure of his campaign/funding will resemble Derossier's

How many years was Derosier DA? Seems like the only DA I can remember for LC.

You don't remember Rick Bryant? I think he became a judge in 06 or 07.
He's the one who prosecuted high profile cases like the Ricky Langley case

That state rep seat potentially impacts me more than who the Calcasieu DA is. Probably the same for many people.

I recognize the name now that you mention it. I must not have been around LC much during his tenure.
ETA It likely just seems longer to me because my family and friends of the family had ties with DeRosier back when he had his law practice. I went to school with a few people who worked for him over the years.

Is this the reason for the sudden retirement?
One of my neighbors works for the DA and is worried she won't be carried over to the new administration. Seems like whoever takes over needs to wipe it all clean.

Derossier has some real political dirt on him this time around. even if he's not personally involved it looks real bad
Chesson stumbled into something that got him very close but THESE allegations are real and will gain tration
i've heard the feds are snooping around as well as the state auditor

Was Derossier involved in going after Chesson over the private school stuff?
I know you know Chesson but that dude always seems to have his hands in crap yet somehow comes out of it cleanly.

The LACE program is sketchy as hell. I got hit with one passing through on I 10 a few years ago.

I swear I saw this exact OP word for word earlier this week somewhere else.

Bryant has more experience and is brighter that Dwight

I'm was thinking the same thing. Dude is testing waters trying to see how his candidate is doing.
Chesson might not be serious, but seems like people are afraid he's going to run and win.
