Are United Kingdom Actors/Actresses Better Than American Counterparts?

Per Captia I would say most definitely. I'm not saying America doesn't have actors as great as the UK but I think they produce much better as a lot.
I think the US has so many more opportunities for actors to find work that we end up with some really bad performers and I think acting jobs in the UK are more competitive which is why they do well in America.
Thoughts?

If we are going Per Capita then I’d say Australia, definitely
It’s insane the amount of acting talent that comes from there.

Their stage tradition is stronger there and their great stage actors don't look down on film/television the way many of ours do.
That probably accounts for most of the difference, right there.

Another point I'll add to my OP is how UK actors can slip in and out of American accents so much better than an American trying to mimic a UK accent which is why they can secure traditional American roles.

I would say yes due to the fact that many of them are classically trained stage actors.

Sort of. Our opinion of British actors is a bit skewed because only the best find work here in the states. So we are seeing the very cream of the crop. The same for Australia.
The Aussies do churn out a tremendous amount of talent for a country of their size, as does New Zealand. Partly because both countries have excellent drama schools and local film/TV opportunities. That having been said if you watch any Aussie TV show the level of acting will range from very good to God Awful. The ones who make it big here in the US are the very best.

Dude..Australia had about 25 million people in the entire nation compared to about 320 Million in the US. That's like saying Alaska is the "biggest" state.

Australia population: 24.99 million
USA population: 328.2 million.
Pretty sure he wasn't talking about the geographical size of Australia considering 90% of the country is basically uninhabited.

I read an article on how UK actors tend to be more formally trained. The gist of the article was this:
They go to academies and do Shakespeare and stage plays and sorta come up through the ranks.
American actors can do that not a lot are young guys showing up in Hollywood and grinding auditions. They tend to be more raw and method based than trained.

Americans don’t come close to the quality of UK/Australian actors. Just look at the cast of 2 very “American” movies, Black Hawk Down & Zero Dark Thirty, and compare numbers.
It’s almost embarrassing that American History movies can’t even field a decent squad of home team actors

Some American accents cause they cant do a good Southern accent

Hell..most non-Southern American actors can't do the accent. Is extremely easy to see the fake.

Both those movies had a ton of Americans in them.
BHD just has a 60 person cast. You can’t expect every actor to be American.

In the UK, actors and actresses get roles based on ability. In the US, actors and actresses get roles based on looks. Also, Hollywood is the film capital of the world which means they get to cherry-pick the best talent from other countries. If an actor from the UK isn’t top-notch, they won’t get far in Hollywood.

Current American "Superheroes"

Dr. Strange: Cumberbach :UK

WTF?

And think how empty much of America is outside the tri-state, NOVA/DC/Balt. and Southern California areas, even with 12x the Australian population.

Most people probably don't even know Damien Lewis is British

Exactly. There's a hierarchy in the British film and television industry. This isn't necessarily true for all of them but it's kinda like a farm system where the stage is A or AA and Hollywood is the big league.
