So, I've got a good 10 days off coming up and want to do a road trip with my son. I need help deciding, or better suggestions.

1. San Antonio, Carlsbad caverns, back via Dallas

2. Atlanta, Savanah, Jacksonville, random Beach

3. Memphis, Arkansas (white water rafting)...

I don't know.. he's interested in history. Been covid cooped up for a bit so I know he wants to get out somewhere.

TIA

What’s your starting point? Can he drive part of the way?

If he is interested in history, skip Atlanta and do Brunswick/Savannah/Charleston.

St. Simons Island has Ft. Frederica, the fort/town Oglethorpe built to defend Georgia from the Spanish in Florida. Also near the site of Battle of Bloody Marsh, which put that defensive area to the test.

Construction of Ft. Puluski, near Savannah, was partly overseen by R.E. Lee not long after he graduated West Point. It was also the site of some of, if not the first, uses of rifled cannon during the Civil War.

Charleston has Ft. Moultrie and Ft. Sumter, as well as the ships at Patriots Point.

Don’t miss Gibsland, LA and make sure to drive south of town on 154 to see this-

There is not much of a fort at Fort Frederica; mostly just the streets and bases of the homes that were there. It is worth visiting IMO.

Ft. Pulaski and Moultrie have structures; they may be reconstructions, not sure.

Just north/east of Jacksonville is Fort Carolina, Fort George State Park and Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve. This is Kingsley Plantation which is in the Fort George SP. This is a view of the house and slave quarters.

We spent 5 days earlier this year, pre Covid19, in the Jacksonville, Jekyll Island, St. Simon, Savannah area and there are many historical sites to visit. Plus Charleston, St. Augustine and Cumberland Island.

Just a few random pictures from that trip.
