First I think Bell is a great WR, runs good routes and holds onto the ball, but I was looking at numerous WR recruits and couldnt help but notice how much smaller Bell is. He's 6'1 160 lbs. Unless he's gained more weight this summer. He's about 20 lbs underweight compared to other top recruits.

Current Tigers height and weight when committed:
T. Tolliver 6'4 185
C. Tolliver 6'1 180.
T. Holliday 5'6 165.

I know Mofitt will put some weight on him, but thats a lot of weight to gain to be able to play ball in the SEC. Any thoughts

that 160 weight is old

apparently he is up to 170 or so and he has not even began his senior year, so weight is not going to be a big problem by the time he enrolls

He should be at 180 at least by this time next year and then will probably redshirt and put on even more weight before he ever plays, so weight is not that big a concern imo

well, for several reasons

we have a deep wr depth chart filled with young talent and he would have to be really good to break into it

he wont be the only wr receiver in this class and if we get Randle and Appleton/Debose or someone else, those guys are more college ready and probably better as they are higher ranked (not that rankings matter once they get into school)

by the time Bell enrolls, we will have Lafell (if he doesnt go pro), Toliver, Tolliver, two Mitchells, Peterson, J. Taylor, and Dixon (and hopefully Benton).

thats a stout group of wrs

if we get Randle, he will most definitely play because he really is that good. He will probably be the only freshman wr to play.

Well if Bell is up to 170 thats a great start. If he can make it to at least the 180 mark before next season, which is possible, then he will be in great shape. Thanks for your answer on the weight update, thats what i was trying to find out.

I agree. He hasn't even began his senior year so there's time for him to come to LSU at a good weight.

Good stuff guys. I can live with 170. 10 lbs is a hard amount of weight to gain and keep on. Its really hard to gain 20 lbs in a year especially at a skill position. So if he is at 170 this year then he is right where he needs to be.

I think his weight is definitely a concern to some extent. Some guys worrk really hard and still have trouble gaining any weight. Odom is an example. Bell has supposedly been working hard on his weight with little if any success from what I hear.
