Just curious, about what year did the Johnson/Evinrude motors go to shite? There seems to be quite a bit of 30+ year old ones still out there rolling. More so than Yamaha, Mercury, etc.

Whenever the FICHT motor came out I’d guess. I’ve been a Merc dude my whole life, except one Johnson Stinger that was a pain in my arse, so I don’t really know. The last 20 years or so you just don’t see many down here and baws run what they like. Evil rude hasn’t been in that game

If I had to guess that was before the foreign motors caught on big and the mercury's just sucked. My dad always talks about how folks thought he was crazy for buying a yamaha in the 80s.

I have no idea how old my Johnson is, it's 15hp 2 stroke, white. I just know it's pull start only and apparently according to 2 different mechanics too old for an electric start to be put on.

I’m still running a 1999 Johnson 115 Ocean Pro. Thing runs like a top!
