I work for a Fortune 100 company. A very high level manager sent a company wide email with a list of employees that has served in the armed forces and a message to thank our coworkers this Memorial Day.
Awkward.
I'm definitely not one of those guys who moralizes to people about how they should be somber or avoid parties or lakes on Memorial Day weekend, but I have found it increasingly odd that many people – usually non-veterans – have conflated it with Veteran's Day and have forgotten the real purpose of Memorial Day.
Ditto for July 4th.
