It seems nuts to me too. He probably came up his whole career not wearing one, and I suppose it became too much of a hinderence when he tried wearing one. I remember him at the end of his career with the Blues, and he looked completely out of place as the only skater on the ice without a helmet.

But what's weirder is he had to wear one at one point in his career because he played College Hockey and helmets were mandatory back then.

And then he gets to the NHL and is like frick it, I ain't wearing no helmet anymore.

It just seems weird...like wearing a batting helmet in H.S. for 4 years and then you get to the Minors and you're like, frick it, I don't need a helmet.
