No we shouldn't, unless you want to say lend credence to the idea that USC is just as much a national champion as we were in 2003.

The difference is that in 2003 we were in the BCS era where everyone agreed before the season that the BCS winner is the Champion.

I don't have a problem with undefeated teams claiming championships in an era when the titles were ISSUED by subjected and ambiguous measures. No team with a loss should claim a championship unless it was WON under the BCS or current playoff format!
