By my estimates, this would actually put quite the delay to the start of the season.

If the 6 weeks started on July 13th, which seems optimistic based on their mid-late July estimate, 6 weeks ends on August 23rd. Then if you start the 4 week cycle immediately after that it runs from August 24th-September 20th. That's like the first 3 games, gone.

Not sure how that'll fly honestly, 10 weeks of stuff leading up to a late start to the season then the season. Seems like a lot.

Which will encourage schools/conferences to start earlier.

Little bit better explanation

Because states are at varying stages of reopening, conference commissioners expect schools to begin practices at different times. Some may start at the earliest possible date, June 1, which Wyoming has already announced. Others may not start until deep into July or even August.

I think you are off on this. Total is 6 weeks before game. Not 6 weeks and then another 4. 2 weeks of ota. 4 weeks of camp. Mentions July 18 as need to start date in article

Pretty sure you misinterpreted this

ETA—-6 week program = 2 weeks of NFL -like OTAs + 4 weeks leading up to 1st game
