Have you investigated any of the political issues affecting Nicaragua? A large life insurance policy should be on your to do list prior to heading there.

Have you investigated any of the current political issues affecting Nicaragua? Doesn't sound like it. Nicaragua isn't Venezuela and this isn't the 80s.

Nica is pretty safe outside of Managua, and even then, stay away from dark alleys in Managua at night and you're fine. Things got kinda hairy early last year and late the year before just because of some civil unrest in Managua, but that has calmed down. Anywhere you'd be fishing is literally hours from Managua anyway.

What type of fishing are you trying to do? If you go to the Pacific side, there are a number of charters that run out of San Juan Del Sur. San Juan Del Sur surf company is a good group. They do surf, spearing, and offshore trips. Bob Marlin Charters is another good outfit in SJDS. You can literally just walk up to a guy on the beach in SJDS and pay him $100USD to take you out in his panga. There are rocks everywhere to spear and the water is clean. They'll drop lines to troll right outside of the bay. Nica gets a crazy amount of offshore winds on the Pacific side throughout the year just because of Lake Nicaragua, which is nice for spearing close to shore. There are a couple of big tournaments out of SJDS every year that are pretty fun too, and SJDS is a cool town to hang out in. Lots of backpackers.

Nica also has a bunch of tarpon, snook, and cool bass species in the jungle on the Caribbean side. I've never fished them but I've heard good things. Lake Nicaragua also has tarpon. Corn and Little Corn have good flats fishing opportunities for bones, permit, etc. if that's what you're looking for.

It's a really awesome place and I wouldn't have any hesitation traveling down there right now (after this COVID stuff settles). Just don't be stupid. Nica also has some of the least crowded really good surf breaks in the world.

Will defer to a close friend and client who has hunted every province in South America. If he says it’s a no go I believe him over an internet travel agent.
When was your last trip down?
Tell me all about it, please.
