I know someone who died of it. Mid 50s and seemingly in perfect health. My first thought was that something had to have been wrong that he just didn’t know yet or didn’t tell everyone about.

I'm sure when they've had more time, the scientific community working on this will find that there were certain factors that made it worse for some that were seemingly healthy with none of underlying factors we know now, but they just don't know what those are yet.
My wife's 33 year old sister had it pretty bad. Was very sick for about 2 weeks - waves of high fever, chest pain, trouble breathing, migraine like headaches, etc. Thought she was over it for about 4-5 days, then got pneumonia for about a week. Recovered at home for all of it, but she has no known underlying issues that we know of that would cause it to have been that bad. She's about month out of it and is still having some breathing issues.
