Choose your new path very carefully. The grass is always greener in the other guys yard. Choose something you would enjoy, be good at, dedicated yourself to, and which would contribute to your partnership. If you are good at investing perhaps that's the ticket.

Investment management from home worked well for us. We still hold about half our assets in portfolios MsNC manages. It's dead center in her wheelhouse though, and she's damn good at it. The rub is, if you're not good, your family will lose ground relative to professionally managed accounts. With the laissez-faire approach your OP suggests, it's a precept which would grow old quickly.
