Josh Williford: What do coaches see that I don't?

I know you can't teach size, but that's about it.
He appears to have decent footwork when you see his videos at DT
Is it that he has so much size and potential that the staff thinks they can coach him up?

that's miles bread and butter so who am i to question it

apparently he really impressed at the camp in June, earning him an offer
all I know is that the coaches must think he is really good to give him a commitable offer with all the talented o-lineman still looking at LSU

suppossedly he looked pretty average at the Auburn camp and get an offer from them. Les and Houston Nutt def. see something the rest of the coaches don't.

He has a great frame for a kid. He's built very well for an OL.

Well, they got a lot of 1 on 1 time with him, so I'm thinking they got to see a lot that you didn't

Williford has tons of potential. He's got the frame, build, and athleticism to do well at OG.
He is a bit of a project, but he could be a great one down the road.

This is what I posted on another board...basically sums up my feelings on this guy now.
I used to be on the Williford train but NOT ANY MORE.
Film is up on TOS and he is THE WORST looking prospect I have seen LSU recruit in the past 3 years!! I cannot believe he has an offer at all and a committable offer at that!
I almost never get upset about who gets offered and who doesn't but this time I am.
He is is a decent run blocker, but only because he is so much bigger than everyone else. He has NO explosion and his quickness leave much to be desired. Pass blocking, he barely gets up out of his stance and he has 'heavy' feet. Honestly, some of the worst OL film I have ever watched from an LSU recruit. He looks like a Tulane caliber player. He will be a low 3 star when he finally get evaluated.
I am shaking my head at this one.
He is more than just a project, he is a big body and that is it.

Interesting. I'm too tired to watch any film tonight, but I'm going to take a look tomorrow.

i said this to you on TSD lynx, i hear the coaches like his natural bending and hand work, his butrst and quickness can be coached. wasnt ciron black a huge project coming out of high school?

Hate to say it but I agree with lynxcat on this one. He plays against poor competition and is twice the size of everyone else and yet his film is very underwhelming. No explosion and has lead feet.

Yeah lsugradman, I wish we didn't agree on this one.
I also just posted this and I think it may hold true:
I will say one thing in Williford's defense...LSU has a ton of young talent on the OL. I think this may be an example where LSU sees a guy that could possibly be an All-American if he is given a lot of time, works hard, and things fall into place. If Williford does not pan out, then LSU has take their 'chance' for the recruiting class. I really feel like Williford will either be an All-SEC caliber guy (maybe RS JR or RS SR year) or he will never see the field.
seeLSUrun I just replied on TSD

I agree that he looks more like a Tulane prospect. Maybe after 3 years in TM program the kid would be a stud.

That is probably the case.....that said, that film was pretty sad. But the coaches saw firsthand what he can do against some tougher competition at the last camp and were impressed. I ALWAYS trust Les with OL but I am kinda upset that we are using schollies on "projects" in a limited class.

man, you guys have me down on williford now. i really hope the coaches don't take a commitment from him with all the other great linemen still out there

Xavier Nixon looks like Florida, John Martinez looks like SC, and Xavier Su'a Filo may be an LSU lean NOW but taking kids out of Utah is REALLY tough, and he may not make it back to campus after his mormon mission.

Geez, I can't wait to read the official thread when Williford commits
