Buying a boat, motor and trailer. All have papers except the trailer. Its a magic tilt trailer so i know that there is a vin number, and a title. how do i go about getting the title transferred to my name?

I think you go see the State Troopers to get it inspected.

VIN number should be on tongue. Have owner apply for lost title and sign it over.

In state? Louisiana?
If it's not a true homemade trailer and has a VIN on it, state police won't sign off on it as homemade.
You need the original owner to register and title it before you can then have it transferred to your name.
Edit to add: You may be able to have a Justice of the Peace attempt to get a judgment of possession for you. However it takes a LONG time. The DMV will research the VIN # and if it's ever been registered or titled by anyone else before, they'll tell you the same thing I said above(get the current owner to register and title it first).
