Trying to hook my ps3 to the internet. After putting the IP address and all I get an error number 80710102. Any help would be great.

No. I just always let it set up automatically. Instead of putting the IP and stuff in myself. Did you try letting it configure automatically?

I don't know then. I never had a problem so I never messed with it. Sorry I couldn't help. Good Luck.

Well, assuming it is similar to other TCP/IP networking, you would also need to enter a subnet mask, a gateway, and DNS server address when entering manual settings

yeah i did that. thats how i got that error. before i entered that it kept saying unsuccessful. i read on a sony message board that a guy raised the last number of the ip address by one number and it got rid of the problem but didn't work on mine.

Are you using a router ? Is it connected straight to your modem ?

What kind of router are you behind?

Are you on a wireless network? If you have other computers on your network, make sure they don't have the same IP address as the ps3.

If you're on a wireless network, make sure its protected by some kind of password.

Reset the modem and router. Turn all the computers/systems off. Turn the modem back on and then the router. Once that happens, then you can start turning everything else on.

Also, I know for the 360 there are ports that I had to forward.

The IP on your computer was reserved by your computer if your computer is on the network that wont work. Question is why are you not using DHCP for Cox I dont believe they give out static addresses unless you pay for it extra. Everything through Cox is supposed to be setup DHCP which would mean they autoconfigure can run. If you plugged it straight from the modem to the PS3 then you should have rebooted both the modem and the PS3 there is no IP assigned to your cable modem. ALSO you may have a cable modem with a built in router if that is the case turn off the internal router.

There's the problem. You can't use the same IP address as the computer, even if the computer is not plugged into the modem.

You would have to reset the modem if you wanted to do it that way.

You need a router doing DHCP so it can give your PC one address and your PS3 a different address

Thats what I dont get even without a router your computer settings should be DHCP unless you have a static address which you have to pay alot of money for.
