Saw it was on sale for $15 on switch. Combat looks fun but I’m worried it may play dated. Can anyone speak to this game and/or the switch performance?

Switch performance? No idea.

I still play it on PS4.

Story is strange and convoluted but interesting and different nonetheless.

As to the story, you think you've gotten strong and think you've got the game beat, and then the everfall opens up and you find out you were wrong. Then you farm your updated gear in the everfall and think you've gotten strong again... and head to Bitterblack Isle (true postgame content) and get nostril raped. Then, you get through your first run through BBI and think you've got it handled, and head in again only to find that now is when the actual postgame content begins.

Even at level 200 with full sets of the rarest Bitterblack armor and weapons (which take forever to farm fwiw), there are rooms in BBI where you will get smoked quickly. If that's not enough, Death will randomly spawn while you're already fighting for your life against all odds, put your party to sleep, and instakill your group with one swipe of his scythe.

It's not quite "Dark Souls" difficulty but it's on that end of the spectrum. You can't just rush into battle or you will die.

The combat is the best part of DD by far. It's fast and fluid, and the abilities of classes chain together well. The Strider class, when maxed, is very OP and gives you the ability to quickly grapple onto and scale monstrous enemies to strike weak points.

I've made multiple accounts on PSN just so I could permagroup with my own custom built pawns. Pawns with Sorcerer vocation, when you take the time to build them properly, do absolutely insane amounts of damage. Two Sorcerer pawns in the same group will combine magic, if they know the same spells, which both cuts down on incantation time and greatly strengths the spell.

I'm biased because it's one of my favorite action combat games ever, but IMO for $15 you can't go wrong. If you get it, quickly find a healing spring and carry empty flasks there to fill, and always keep some on each character in your party, and you're welcome in advance There's a healing spring not entirely too far north of Gran Soren, and not much to fight along the way if you stick to the roads.

Just be prepared to hear the comments from your companions over....and over.... and over. Gransys, the beating heart of all Soren!

Yeah

I was happy, after a while, to find the pause menu option to "turn off pawn chatter".
