I don't think it's just Mardi Gras or how many people. But I know that people do come from all over the world to attend the Rodeo. There's a large International Committee who welcomes all the guests from all over. I've seen them. You just probably don't see them hanging out with their family waiting for a fried Twinkie or to get on the Tilt 0 Whirl. But those international attendees are there. They're in the suites and the clubs and on the 2nd floor of NRG and at the private parties. Pretty much, our first cases came from the folks who went on an Egyptian River cruise. But after our first case of community spread (the Montgomery guy who went to the cook off), we shut it down and shut it down fast!

I hear all my friends and relatives in and around Shreveport (even the tiny rural parish I grew up in!) say that folks aren't staying home. They saw big groups of 6-8 people going into Walmart. They saw tons of them hanging out places. I'm sure these same people aren't practicing great hand hygiene, etc. Maybe it got to Louisiana by Mardi Gras, but it spread because somebody went to Walmart (or the chicken place) and talked to somebody, who also talked to somebody, who has an aunt in NOLA, whose friend went to Mardi Gras. I just don't believe that the Louisiana folks all stopped seeing each other. From what I've seen in Houston, most people really are doing all the right things. The same people that hung out in the Superdome are the ones who didn't pay attention to hand washing and social distancing. Do they even hear the news?
