It kind of was actually. Part of the Treaty of Versailles that they didn’t think through (like basically all of that awful treaty) is that limiting the German military meant they couldn’t enforce laws within their own borders. The Reds and Brownshirts more in their ranks than the entire army did. Due to this there was pretty much a small scale civil war between the Republic, the Brownshirts, and the Reds.
When the Communists and the Nazis started getting elected to the Reichstag, a lot of people were panicking thinking Red October could happen in Germany, so they then elect more of their archenemies into the Reichstag, which led to Hitler being appointed, and threw the communists into the camps and made the officials left over from the Republic fall in line.
