Safe place to download Minecraft Mods

I have a young kid who is in to Minecraft and keeps asking to download mods. I admit I am dumb and come to the infinitely more intelligent gaming board for advice.

Curseforge to get mods, but you are better off downloading a modpack from Technic or Feed the Beast to start off with.
I like building my own modpacks to keep lag down though, some of them like feed the beast can get pretty ram heavy.

I load them through Twitch (look for the Mods menu near the top).
I'm pretty sure they were supposed to change it sometime but . . . it's still working for me; played some MC.Eternal earlier and I'm downloading All The Mods 5 right now.
