I have been taking out various shrubs and bushes around the house during this quarantine period. I had some that I cut down around my palm tree that had exceptionally large root balls imbedded in the ground. I broke a shovel handle in half trying to remove these tough roots. I bought a "Root Slayer XL" shovel and it kicks major arse. I highly recommend it when trying to get rid of anything with roots.

Interesting, how well does it do cutting pretty large tree roots?
