I have to agree with you here. I tried to watch the show twice and I could never get through more than a few episodes. Like you said, the overbearing score and acting just makes it exhausting to watch.
I just read Dune for the first time and I'm debating whether or not it's worth it to watch Lynch's version before this comes out. From the few clips/trailers I've seen, I've got pretty serious doubts that I'll be a fan.

I am an unabashed fan of the Lynch film. But more for nostalgic reasons. Go ahead and watch it. It's enjoyable enough for what it is. Since you've already read the books, certain parts will drive you crazy.
