Is LSU, which had to replace almost every key component of its national championship team, really going to slow down Texas Tech?

pretty nice article...a bit delusional at times, but for the most part a good read

This is what makes me angry. I e-mailed the guy. Didn't do his homework.

Key Components:
Starting QB
Starting RB
#1 WR
All American Tackle
Starting Secondary (pretty much all of it)
I'd say you lost some key components.
I know you have good/great guys coming in, but they all haven't proven they are capable of their new roles yet

Yeah, I see what you are saying. But I guess my opinion is that if the player had significant playing time, then it's not a total loss. In other words, with the RBs we have coming back I don't count losing our starting RB as "needing replacing". Same with the WR's. This years crop should be better, they all played last year. Same with the OL we lost. The guy stepping in has proven himself. So the only significant "replacement" on the offense is QB. Of course, that's my opinion because I know the team. A guy reading some stats that lists starters lost may see it differently. An Appy guy had a post where he wasn't impressed with our returning D-line, citing Francois and Alexander stats, not too many tackles between the 2. What he didn't realize is that they were both starters who only played 5 games. You see what I mean. QB, CB. That's our 2 areas of replacement, in my opinion.

played with out #1 WR most of the year
secondary is partially back
last year when one of our greats went down, his back
up usually did great, people were saying, "Who is that guy?"
It is reload time. We have 4 of the nations top 18 players coming in 09. The rich get richer.

QB replacement-that is an issue
RB-got plenty of talent and experience there
WR-Early was hurt half the season so we have plenty of talent and exp there
DT-Chalres Alexander, Marlon Favorite, and Ricky Jean-Francois (all former starters)will be returning
Secondary-issue

Good article. He has some good points. And remember, this is his opinion. He allowed to say and think whatever he wants. And quite frankly, he has some great arguments. However, I don't think Mizzou could touch any of the top 5-6 teams in the SEC. And if he thinks they are teh second best team, then that pretty much puts things into perspective. Plus, I think our middle of the pack teams are much better than theirs. It's only the bottom leevl teams where they would have a chance to win, and even then, teams like MSU and Ole Miss could easily handle Baylor and Iowa state.

starting qb..yeah i can understand how this is an issue..but with all the talent around whoever it will be, he doesnt have nearly as much pressure as any freshman or inexperienced qb that I've ever seen had to play.
starting RB..our RB's will actually have a chance to play now
#1 WR: I think everyone has pretty much covered this. We may not have the BEST standout WR this year..but I'm am more than confident that NO other school has as good of a WR squad than ours this season. TT will be better than byrd and lafell..book it.
DT: Some may kill me for this, but I think our Dline will be better than it was last year. Even without Dorsey.
Secondary: This is our only glaring weakness as of right now imho. But 3 games to start off against lower tier competition should get them jump started and more than enough time to figure who will play where.

Stopped reading right there.

i think the thing the guy overlooked (as does many college football reports) is the overall speed on the offensive and defensive lines
when an sec defender (rantards) use the "speed argument," everyone looks at skill positions, but in the past couple of years the sec has proven if you have an athletic o-line and defensive front 7, that team will compete very well against teams from other confrences
maybe he should ask jason white if my arguement makes sense...i think we all remember him getting laid out by lionel turner

I agree totally. When an SEC person mentions speed, people automatically start talking skill positions. And most teams all have speed at skill positions. It's D-line and the linebackers where the separation comes.

also, do people realize that matt flynn had only ONE start prior to the 2007 season.
he wasn't exactly "proven"
but that seemed to work out.
