Seems like I'm one of many looking for a good deal on a bike right now. I'm 5'8" 160lbs. Looking for a nice bike that I can use about 70% of the time on road and about 30% of time on dirt and wood trails. Let me know of any good deals that are out there. Looking for budget friendly $500 and under....Appreciate the help.

You can get a brand new Trek Verve 1 for around that I think.

You will easily be able to do that.

I don't have one or know of someone who has one, but I was in the bike market for a similar bike style a few years ago and the used market is cheaper than that for a pretty good machine.

A manlet means a man of shorter stature who is over-muscled; perhaps someone who is trying to make up for his short stature and standing out with his muscular physique. To say that anyone under 6' or even 5'10? is a manlet is ridiculous, since the average male height In North America is 5' 9 1/2?.

IF you go trek get the Dual Sport instead of the Verve. The DS has a little bit of suspension and better tire to help you on those 30% offroad times. Still a good bike for pavement too.

Specialized crosstrail is the equivalent to the Trek DS. Both new are in your price range.

I’d suggest using the money on some free weights.

I bought a specialized crosstrail from acadiana bicycle company 2 days ago. One thing to note is that specialized discontinued the crosstrail line a month ago so I bought one of the ones they had left in stock for a discount. The Sirrus X is what took its place. Capital Cyclery is closed indefinitely and they carry trek. After reading up I found that specialized and trek are very very similar especially at the entry level bikes and most prefer specialized slightly because they put some better components on the entry level bikes. I also had a good experience at acadiana bicycle shop.

Last night I bought what I guess you could describe at a "city bike" for $100. Used, but in great shape. I had put the word out that I was looking for one, and it got to a guy in our community who is a bit of a bike guru who has about a dozen bikes he owns. He was looking to unload some of them, so I got one.
