Hand times are not unusual at pro days, it's pretty common. It's also why pro days usually result in faster 40 times.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, an Electronic Timing System is used. At most Pro Days, manually operated stopwatches are used to time athletes.

When scouts and coaches go to pro days they are timing everything by hand. There are no electronic timing devices available.

Almost all legit big time program pro days use laser timing now. Not talking about smaller schools, all the bigger schools use laser timing now to leave no doubt.

Guys in attendance will still use stop watches but they have the laser times to look at officially.
