Is it really? Obviously we are more safety conscious in the USAF, so we only hot pit/refuel for specific training purposes, but it certainly isn't "all the time".

Why would you shut down to gravity fuel an aircraft when you can hot fuel and go? This is why Ord has to be at FARPs/fueling stations to dearm.

I was an AH-64 pilot for ~10 years. We hot refuel on a daily basis to maintain readiness. Only take cold fuel if landing at a civilian airport.
