I'm trying to imagine having a family member who fought for the Confederate forces. I'm sure I have a few. Would I be proud? No. Would I go out of my way to celebrate them? Of course not.

Then again, I also recognize that it was a different world in the mid-1800s, and I could have just as easily found myself fighting alongside Confederate forces because I wouldn't know any better. I try to remember that, but I still can't find it in me to "celebrate" it.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

Have you ever tried to look into all the problems between the two sides that caused the war? Maybe it'll give you a better grasp on how things were back then.
