My neighbor’s father in law died and he basically was dead man walking. He had symptoms and is counted as a Covid-19 death here in Oregon. These stats are definitely being padded.

Alex Trebeck just reached the 1 year make since being diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer about a month ago. Less than 20% of individuals make it to 1 year and less than 5% make it to 5 years.
So he’s been pretty much a dead man walking for the last 13 months. If he suddenly got hit by a car and killed, would you say that “death” was padded? I wouldn’t, and I wouldn’t say that if he got the flu, COVID-19, both of which puts him at risk due to his cancer, and died from a resulting respiratory infection, that his “death” was padded.
