Wouldn't classify that as "cowardice in the face of the enemy".

That might be a little harsh but the Roosevelt operates in the face of the Chinese navy. As far as I'm concerned, they are our greatest threat at the present time and we just had an officer in charge of one of our country's most powerful assets against them declare to the world that we are unready to face them if they were to make an aggressive move in southeast Asia.

I don’t disagree with you on those points. I also don’t disagree their should be punitive action if he was the one that leaked the letter.

I would suspect as the Captain of the Roosevelt, he would be pretty well read in on the threat China poses.

Looking at it from a strategic perspective, this isn’t a pandemic specific to the US forces and how much of a degradation of force projection capabilities would an aircraft carrier see with an infection rate that mirrors those of the cruise ships we’ve seen?

There's no need to be dramatic. We're not at war (an actual war), the ship has been in port unready to do anything for a week, we have 12 carriers for a reason and many more sub's.

Nobody raised hell when the George Washington was out of commission for months after a fire. This is temporary.
