HBO has greenlit three pilots, including David Simon's next project for the pay cabler and a period drama from Martin Scorsese and "The Sopranos" alum Terence Winter.

HBO toppers Richard Plepler and Michael Lombardo said Thursday during the net's presentation at the Television Critics Assn. press tour that they are ramping up pilot development at a furious pace. Lombardo confirmed there are conversations about a "Sex and the City" bigscreen sequel and that HBO would be up for a feature rendition of "The Sopranos," if series creator David Chase is willing.

It will never happen, you can bank on it.

Among other reasons, Gandolfini was getting serious bank from the series, but was starting to get sick of playing the character of Tony. He's always been a great actor, getting away from the Sopranos is a golden opportunity for him to focus on other roles (like the upcoming flick where he plays Hemingway).

Only way there will be a Sopranos movie is if it's a prequel to the Cable series.

Well David Chase has pretty much insinuated Tony died in the last episode, so I can't see him deciding to make a movie.

I actually think that might be more interesting.

Could happen, especially if Gandolfini's post-Sopranos career doesn't take off.

If there is a Sopranos movie, Chase has already said that it would be set before the ending of the Sopranos series...ie all the major characters would come back.

I think that would be the only way they could do it. With Chris and Bobby dead and Sil pretty much a veg, what's left for a movie?

As much as I used to love the Sopranos, I just dont care anymore. Especially if they just saw the success of SATC and are piggybacking.

The prequel is the right idea. They could call it North Jersey or something. We would learn a lot, not only about Unclu Jun and Johnny Boy, but about Uncle Pat, Old Man Bach, Feche, etc.

It would have to be, but how do you squeeze new events into a series that has already played out.

And a sequel would suck because Tony's probably dead, Chrissy's dead, Bobby's dead, and Silvio is either dead or a vegetable.

So what would it be about? Pauly running New York? Meadow having a baby? AJ gets his shite together and takes over for his dad? Carmella finds a new boo?

I don't see how they can pull this off.

There wouldn't be any dramatic tension...you know that nothing major is going to happen to any of the characters.

A prequel with Junior and Johnny could work because the only real rule they would have is that Junior and Livia have to survive. Otherwise, pretty much anything is on the table. This is probably the best course of action; it would be pretty interesting.

A direct sequel to the series could possibly work. Gandolfini has a price just like anyone else. A 20 million dollar check for 4 months of filming would be tough for anyone to turn down. The only problem here is that the movie would have to be more action oriented to appeal to people.

Let's face it...slapping two or three episodes of the TV series together and calling it a movie probably won't translate very well. The series had a deliberate pace that worked for TV but wouldn't necessarily work for the big screen.
