I was in Abilene this weekend for the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) football state meeting, and there were some coaches from area high schools. One of them was the defensive back coach from Abilene High. He was drawing up defensive schemes that his team uses against the spread offenses that have become so popular in high school football. He referred to Williams as a bad motor scooter, and that teams better block him! Anyways, I was joking with him afterwards and told him to make sure his bad motor scooter ends up at LSU, and he said, "he probably will. He's waiting to see if Texas will offer, but he (Williams) doesn't think they will because they don't have room. Right now LSU looks like the one."

This pretty much confirms what I've read everyone else say on here, but I thought I would share what I know since I rarely have anything to offer in recruiting. Take it for what it's worth. I hope he is a Tiger next year.

I don't like being sloppy seconds. I only want guys that have desire to go to LSU and nowhere else. Being a backup plan is not cool at all.

I'd love to have Williams play for LSU, but I've gotta agree with this.

It's not sloppy seconds. His dream school has probably been to someday play for his favorite school, that being UT. If he doesn't get the offer he would have to go elsewhere, that right now being LSU. I don't consider that sloppy seconds. He is a great player and Texas is probably his dream school.

I have always had a dream of going to LSU if I was to not be accepted I would go to Auburn but I don't want people thinking I'm there as sloppy seconds.

"sloppy seconds" is what got guys like rjf to be playing for lsu. not to mention shepard and pratt to be committed this year.

Well I see both sides. Williams is playing like that and making it known that hey if Im offered by Texas i will a longhorn. At least RS and DP went ahead and made that committ to be tigers and have been pretty passionate about there decision. The attitudes are totally different.

both pratt and shepard named texas their leader and were expected to commit to them until the longhorns offered them at different positions. lets not kid ourselves here. even for a while after his commitment there was concern that shepard would switch to texas.

its much easier for pratt and shepard to be passionate about their decisions because theyve made decisions. williams hasnt yet. he has however named lsu his leader multiple times.

You are absolutly right but we dont question him anymore because of the way he has handled it. Reading his articles and watching his interviews he is bought into LSU and what we are doing. We have no doubt in our mind who RS wants to play for. I honestly feel that if they(UT) offered him now he would remain a tiger ala Ryan Baker.

im not saying he doesnt or wouldnt.

he said texas was his favorite for a while. everyone expected him to go to texas. texas offered him as a wr, not as qb. lsu offered him as a qb. he came to lsu.

the point is he is just as much "sloppy seconds" as chris williams. i do not mean that in a derogatory way at all, but instead to show the line of thinking that 'lsu is too good for sloppy seconds' is pretty stupid since i guarantee the guy that made that comment didnt complain when shepard committed.

I don't think sloppy seconds is a bad thing because it should'nt affect the amount of effort that a kid puts in for his team.

I agree with you. I just think Williams needs to play it as if it is a 2 way race. Like McFarland. SAy Texas has a slight lead. The crazy thing is Texas hasn't even offered him might not evenhave plans to. At least Pratt and Shep had that i nhand first and knew where they stood with UT. He would be lack of a better term "sloppy seconds for them". So to be honest if he committed right now I wouldnt give 2 squirts of piss until signing day. Thats how nervous this kids verbal makes me. But I would love for him to be a Tiger and Hell NO i didnt complain when Shep gave us his Verbal. I was excited.

Thankfully for the rest of us the staff is smarter than this.

I bet 20 players on the current team had LSU as a backup plan when they were in high school. As long as they put it effort when they come here it shouldn't matter.

True. I wonder how many of the very happily married guys on here can say that their wife was their very 1st choice, or their job, or having a baby boy or girl 1st. Maybe the connection to 1st choice in each case isn't the same, but the analogy isn't far off.

The point I was making, was I don't like that fact hes using us as that backup plan and if Texas offers him mid-recruitment or right before signing day, it hurts us when he decides to go to UT instead. Leaving a hole in that recruitment spot.

Shepard situation is different, he acts like he bleeds purple and gold, like hes true to his word. Now if Chris turns out like this, then I don't really care who his backup plan was. Same thing with Baker, he wanted to go to FSU but he was a man of his word and was loyal enough to stick with us. What I'm trying to say, is, I don't like the fact some guys are having the mindset that they'll screw us over once their "dream" school offers. I'm not saying Chris is going to be like that because others have proven otherwise, just that right now, hes leading on that way.

Recruiting just doesn't work like that.

Same thing goes for saying "I only want players who bleed purple and gold."
