Then why don't y'all stop it pre and post op? Steroids are worse. No medicine is to be taken lightly. That's why you don't give it without a specific diagnosis. Anesthesia is deadly. I'll guarantee more people die every year from complications from anesthesia than from plaquenil.

Plaquenil isn’t a terribly strong immunosuppressant compared to other DMARDs. I’ve never had a patients pcp or rheumatologist recommend stopping it before joints procedures and I’ve never required a patient to do so. There’s actually literature that shows patients have increased complications post operatively (infections, disease flare ups primarily) when some of these drugs are stopped pre-operatively. I don’t stop methotrexate either. Folks do fine.
