It's just interesting and seemingly arbitrary when expertise seems to matter. The power of facts and analysis and expertise seems to be fading in some areas of public life, but it's more prized than ever in others.

In all sorts of private enterprises, people develop expertise in particular domains and data drives decision making and is one of the most valuable on markets and the ability to analyze it is one of the most sought-after resources there is, even in domains like pro sports.

And yet in other domains in public life, we devalue it. Or at least many do. I think I agree with those who are saying that Trump will bend to expertise here (as long as it's mostly pushing in the same direction) instead of going with "common sense" judgments.
