Have y'all seen what Andy Dalton's is owed on his deal?
Just put it this way, nobody in there right mind would trade for him. I will be amazed if he isn't cut. He ,cam, and Jameis will all be cut. The question is, who do the patriots pick up to push stidham for the starting job? It's possible they already made that move with signing hoyer, but I doubt it. Just my opinion but I think that the6 will sign someone that has a chance to be a starter.
BTW, regardless of what that other guy on here says, there are multiple articles and clips of Adam scheffter saying that the pats love stidham and that they are gonna give him a shot

Pats will move forward with Stidham/hoyer and maybe a draft pick.
If it looks real rough in training camp I could see them then looking at the vet QB options

Jameis most potential
Cam wouldn't touch
Dalton safest choice if you can put a good defense around him

$17 million, isn't bad for a 31 years old QB that has started for the past 9 seasons. The reason I think he gets traded, it he would get more money that on the open market. That said, I think Patriots are going to try and trade for Watson.

'Skins traded with the Panthers for QB Kyle Allen, physical pending

If the patriots get watson it will be signing him as a free agent next year .

Watson has zero shot at FA until 2024 at the earliest
Rookie deal ends after the 2021 season and the Texans can tag him 3 times after that

Will they just draft someone and have him compete with fitz to see if he's ready year one?

How does that work, doesnt he decide if he wants to sign the tag or not

Once his rookie deal is up, it's his option, correct?

It’s still an exclusive franchise tag. He has zero other option than to play under that tag
Once he’s tagged, he would have until the season starts to negotiate a long term deal with Houston (or a trade hypothetically), and it locks in from that point. He has to play atleast 6 games to accrue a season towards free agency. And they can tag him for 3 seasons total

Seems like the NFL will have a surplus of serviceable QBs going forward.

He can be tagged twice as well, regardless of if he signs it. The cap hit happens no matter what though.

3 times actually^
Amazingly the NFLPA doesn’t seem to care enough to try to get the tag out of existence

I could have sworn you could only tag a player twice, did this change with the new CBA?

No it’s always been 3 max. We’ve just never seen a player get tagged 3 times

Ah okay. I guess the cap hit would be insane

It escalates with each year tagged. But for a guy like Watson the Texans certainly would if they have to. I believe it’s 144 percent of the players previous salary (which would be 120 percent of the original salary he signed for before being tagged, which the original tag number is set for an average of top 5 money at the position)
Most of the time these dudes either get traded if they are really like frick this, or they sign a long term deal for the stability of it. The teams hold all the cards basically.
Kirk Cousins was the only guy who said frick it and took the tag twice until they decided they didn’t want to tag him a 3rd year so he got unrestricted FA and got a fully guaranteed contract. That’s pretty much the only example of a QB hitting FA without being old as shite or having another weird tangent happen about their career like an injury

You think the Skins are going to trade for both Carolina QBs?
