You could. I would get my lawyers lined up, though.
3M aggressively defends patents.
And, as you said, the filter is what matters. The masks are more or less a loss leader. They sell the masks to sell the filters.
Another thing I have found over the years, if you have a need to purchase a good respirator mask (particularly a 3M brand) do not purchase from a big box store. The markup on such masks at Lowes, HD, etc. is ridiculous.

I was in litigation with 3M for over a decade. I think I was there number 1 enemy for a short time. If you give these to hospitals etc I don’t think they will mind right now. But glad to represent you if they threaten to sue you. ??

I said I could, simply meaning the capability is there.

Have no desire to.

I already have one and without filters it's useless anyway.
