People may be worried this will hurt Trumps re-election chances but this is similar to being a wartime president. He has the bully pulpit and unfounded criticism looks terrible. And the way the press has overplayed this, when the dust settles and the number of dead is low he can claim victory.

Exactly. Now is not the time to be trying to score political points.
For once they should all try to do their fricking jobs and unfrick this whole situation.
They'll have plenty of time to spin it for their side once the dust settles.
