I went in 2007 with a church and took malarone the entire time. Don’t remember it being expensive though. What was expensive was all the travel vaccines (I wasn’t taking any chances....I got everything recommended on top of the mandated yellow fever vaccine to enter the country)

My daughter went to Kenya in 2012 and Tanzania in 2014. She took Malarone both times. I also don't remember it being expensive. I know a couple of people who have gotten malaria on trips and ended up hospitalized. No way I'd risk it. It's a serious disease.
