From what I heard the loss of vegetation was the number one thing that killed Cataotche especially the Tank Ponds

Yes, the disappearing vegetation was a big part of the problem. The cause was in dispute. A bunch of the locals claimed that slowing down the diversion caused salinity levels to rise killing off the vegetation. Others said it was from excessive sedimentation from the diversion.
I don’t claim to know what it was. Just vaguely remember all the theories I’ve heard.
Didn’t LDWF stock it with Florida strain bass, too? What a waste.
