$500 a year is a whole 25 cents an hour assuming a standard 40 hour work week.
For teachers though, who apparently work 96 hours or so per week, that's only 10 cents per hour. A slap in the face.
$500 is stupid. That’s only a little more than $40/paycheck as teachers are usually paid monthly.
I taught HS for 6 years. I worked maybe 50 hrs/week. Coaches and extracurricular teachers worked a lot more but they got stipends for the extra work. Not huge stipends by any means, but they did get paid more.

5% to 7% per sport is the typical stipend. In short, about $200 -$300 per month more give or take. That breaks down to about $5 per hour. There is a reason it is becoming harder to have coaches on staff that are faculty members. As for auxiliary groups, they got about half of what coaches got until very recently.
As for the raise, it will pay for a dinner with the missus once a month.
FWIW, I am not a member of the union and have never voted for a Democrat...ever.
