They really don't care who is president. Oh sure, they could play any of the Democrats like a fiddle but that is not their real goal. Their goal is to push the political divide in this country further and further apart and the best way to do that is to put the idea into the Democrats head that they are trying to help Trump get re-elected. The Democrats are more reactive and less rational so they are easier to manipulate.

An influencing state actor, especially a superpower, will always create a vacuum when they step back from control. It's the basis of geo-politics.
I won't pretend to know what strategy Russia is attempting, but generally global politics is much more than black & white. However, it isn't difficult to see where decisions the administration has made over the last 3 years has some positives and negatives for Russia.
But just because it's a positive Russia doesn't necessarily mean it's automatically bad for us a country, and vice versa. Like I said nothing is B&W.

Since Putin/Russia is behind all the anti-fracking campaigns and Trump recently sanctioned Rosneft for its illegal concessions with the illegal Venezuelan government, I'd say that Putin prefers any of the Dem candidates by far.
Russia need at least $50 per barrel crude oil. That and natural gas are its only real moneymakers to support the government
