Mayor Pete's gayness will cost him in the end. The country's just not ready for it. Just like abortion, you can make it legal, but the rightness/wrongness never reaches into the voting booth.

It's not about Pete being gay.
It's mainly about him being articulate, having modest sounding talking points and having no notable background. It's the perfect Dem candidate. Their winners are:
a peanut farmer / Governor from Georgia. (Carter)
an unknown Governor of Arkansaas (Clinton)
an unknown Senator from Illinois. (Obama)
Dems do best when the public doesn't really ever learn who they are.
Conversely, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Jimmy Carter*, VP Walter Mondale all lost.
*Jimmy Carter won as an unknown, but then lost as president. Think about that.
The Dems want and need someone who is unknown to the public. Hence:
He is their perfect candidate.
