It’s not 2007 anymore. Gifv/mp4/Webm files use less bandwidth than gifs, but here we are.

It shouldn't take any because it's just text printed to your browser. Your browser is what then does all the extra stuff of contacting twitter to get the tweet and information.

At worse it would just be a quick parse on print out, no different than any other bbcode.

More likely it's not that it requires more hamsters, but rather that multiple tweets on a page can increase the load time for pages on the users end.

Easy way around this is to just allow the user to decide if they want to see the embedded tweets as a setting, or just a link. That would require some coding.

I don't see how, the server only prints out the text. It's the users browser that loads the images. I really do not know why it would do that, unless it's detected a broken image.

There are some options that could be added that would improve the experience and probably get more people to visit without screwing up everything else. The lack of some features prevented me from posting more often for years, as I would instead visit another place that did have the features.
