It was a back-handed compliment. While saying that she was attractive, he also might have been telling her that she made it into the business thanks almost entirely to her looks.

Because, let's be honest, she's insanely gorgeous. It's difficult to tell a face like that "no" after an audition.

he's just upset with her because he had to blow Harvey wienstein 8 or 9 times to get "in".
