My wife's a nurse(no pics but an OT 6.9, lol), she said the same exact thing after the first week when my bp wouldn't budge that they need to increase to 20mg of lisinopril....I will also suggest it...

Is this the first time you've taken meds for hypertension? They'll usually start you with low dose meds with little side effects and adjust from there. I've been dealing with it since I was 30. Runs in my family.

I would recommend going to 20mg on your lisinopril and changing what I presume is 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide to 25mg chlorthalidone.

if that doesnt work add 5mg amlodipine

Give it time. A month is barely anything. Where do you get your BP taken regularly? How do you do it? When are you taking it? etc.

Still try to lose weight. Even though you workout and stuff, thats still extra weight your body has to deal with. Im by no means saying to stop exercising and lifting weights, but just try to drop pounds.

Lowering your blood pressure isn't going to make your pecker limp... the opposite is often true.

Lisinopril is a good medication. 10mg is just the initial dose your doctor attempted. He may just increase the dose.

OP, everything here is true. A good doctor wants to put you on as low a dose as possible. I was on 10mg Lisinopril for several years, now in 30 plus Amlodipine. Your body eventually gets adjusted to the medication and it usually needs to be adjusted again, but that can be years or even decades down the road.

And the little man works fine, no complaints.

I agree...when I get a med that works..not changing...
Yep. After all, this is a situation to live the rest of your life with.

Every day, 365 days a year. And the OP and all the rest on BP meds want to live a lot of days, long enough to play with their own great grandkids on their knee.

So we're talking 40, 50, even 60 years or more of the daily taking of chemicals to alter their critical bodily functions.

Is this next 2 weeks so over burdensome to your next 40 years?

Yeah me too...yes never took any meds for that matter until a month ago...

I also take hctz diuretic, it's a small pill along with the 10mg of lisinopril.

Except if you develop Angioedema, like I did.

I never found that to be an issue.

I can't, however, get my heart rate to anything even near target when doing cardio.

I do it all times during the day and I take it on my left arm..I take meds everyday around 6pm...i need to lose about 20lbs, I've lost about 6 lbs in a month...Dr won't attack that part for me(losing weight plan) until my bp is lower. I do mostly cardio work, light weights(no weight gaining workouts just defintion workouts)

My bp is bad. I'm not some enormous fat guy either. It's just hereditary as my dad has dealt with it most of his life too.

I try to stick with the Dash diet most of the time but I cheat occasionally. I take the max dosage (300mg) of Avapro and 50mg of Toprol. I can't take ace inhibitors.

All hctz does is clear excess salt from your body. I wouldn't think it would cause erectile problems. That, of course, means absolutely nothing.

It takes 2-3 weeks for Lisinopril to take full effect. He will probably increase you up to 20mg Lisinopril. Then either increase your HCTZ from 12.5 (I'm assuming that's what you are on) up to 25, or switch you over to chlorthalidone.

How’s your sleep? Ever done a sleep test? It’s easy and it tells you more than you think. Sometimes meds don’t help blood pressure for someone with sleep apnea because their constantly spiking all night.

Bengal I believe u hit a large reason why i think my bp is higher esp every morning. I do have sleep issues(i wake up 4 or 5 times a night, maybe more) and yes today I am getting my machine and gonna start the tweaking process tonight to calibrate the machine to my needs...dunno how I'm gonna do with something attached to my face but I hear once im sleeping right, ill have all sorts of normal energy, lose weight, won't be tired all day everyday and lower my bp. We will see. I'm excited about this.

That's ridiculous. It is simply a diuretic.
