Hate on it all you want but Slidell in the 90s was the shite. Smallish town, big yards, woods everywhere and 40 mins for NOLA.

I will also vouch for Slidell in the 1990s and early to mid 2000s. Tons of younger people lived there around this time. Like 3rd grade to high school aged young people. A bunch of kids.
It really did have yards and woods. Plenty of space to play any sport, shoot each other with paintball guns or fireworks, climb and build stuff, etc.
