99% of the reason for the stuff talked about in this thread. Can you imagine a breakfast scene (discussed above) where the characters spend 40% of the scene chewing food and staring at each other? Or a hacking scene where the guy is just quietly typing code for hours?
Quick story - My co-worker was a Navy SEAL who was detailed to be a Technical Consultant on the infamous Charlie Sheen movie "Navy SEALs". One of the first scenes filmed was a hostage rescue scene of some pilots. The actors rappel through some windows and mow down the terrorists with full auto machine gun fire. My buddy, Steve, steps forward when they yell cut and says out loud "we would never utilize full auto fire in a hostage rescue as the chance of hitting a hostage is too high. We would take careful semi auto shots." The Director stared at him for a second and said, "when we want your input we will ask for it. Go stand over there off camera please." Steve quickly learned that entertainment and appearances trumps reality every time in Hollywood.
