Okay, what are all the great reasons we brought Linehan on for? Not something generic like NFL experience. What does his hire bring to the table?
Two words: quarterback development.
Orgeron doesn’t develop QBs like Jimbo, Cutcliffe, Mullen, Riley, Leach, etc. Ensminger doesn’t either. We need someone like that on staff, and that’s what Linehan brings.

You ever heard of Eric Zeier? Guess who developed that guy? That's right Ensminger who is not only a former QB himself, but who is a very excellent QB coach.
Meanwhile, Linehan was hired as the passing game coordinator and not the QB coach since LSU already has a QB coach and his name is Steve Ensminger. In fact, it's part of his job title and job description.
Steve Ensminger, a starting quarterback for LSU under legendary coach Charles McClendon in the late 1970s, enters his second full season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Tigers in 2019.
