Why don't more aircraft have landing gear like b52's?

The way the entire carriage can be offset seems like a major benefit.

B52

Probably because it's unnecessary and incredibly expensive on passenger planes which are significantly smaller

A piece of the answer is that when the plane was designed, there were only a couple of runways that could accommodate the weight of a fully loaded b52. That means that the plane had to land on a given runway no matter what direction the wind was blowing. In a heavy direct crosswind, the aircraft would have to “crab” in sideways because it had to land on the reinforced/long runway. That being the case, it was necessary to be able to angle the wheels to accommodate the harsh angle that the plane had to hold upon touchdown.

You’ve come to the right place my dear fellow.

I’ll pass your question along as soon as we touch down in Bora Bora.
